(Saturday, April 9, 2016 6:34 pm) — Bernie Sanders was declared the winner in the 2016 Wyoming Democratic caucus keeping his wave of momentum alive with the caucus being his seventh victory in a row. The win was no surprise for the Vermont senator who was expected to win Wyoming being a Western caucus state with a largely white electorate.

Democrats gathered across the state to allocate 14 of the state’s pledged delegates. Wyoming has 4 superdelegates that have already backed Clinton. While the win keeps the Sanders campaign alive it does not do much to affect Clinton’s overall delegate lead ahead of the key New York primary where 291 delegates are at stake. The primary will take place April 19.

Sanders: 56 percent
Clinton: 44 percent

It was the first time in decades a presidential candidate spoke in the South Bronx. He spoke alongside director Spike Lee and actress Rosario Dawson, who is known for her role in Kids and many other films, including Sin City: A Dame to Kill For as well as Rent.

After the rally DemocracyNow’s Amy Goodman caught up with Dawson while she was on the sidewalk with friends and asked her why she was supporting Bernie Sanders.

Most of the recent Wisconsin polling has Sanders ahead of Hillary Clinton by a few points. This is a rather remarkable turnaround in Wisconsin as Sanders trailed the Democratic front-runner by over 40% a year ago.

On one hand, Bernie Sanders’ surge in Wisconsin makes perfect sense as Wisconsin is the birthplace of the progressive political movement, with a history of accommodating anti-establishment candidates. The political upset felt across the nation in Michigan is a good omen for the Sanders’ campaign in neighboring Wisconsin as both states utilize open primaries that allow independents to vote in the Democratic primary and independents overwhelmingly favor Sanders.

A black woman in her 60s, Jabul is devoted to Sanders and said she has plans to vote for him in New York’s April 19 primary. But she wasn’t positive she was going to vote at all. It had been quite a while.

“I haven’t voted since Mayor Lindsay!” she told me. That would be John Lindsay, the long-ago New York mayor who made unsuccessful bids for president and Senate. He left City Hall in 1973, and the last time he appeared on a ballot was 1980. He died in 2000.
