(July 2, 2016 10:59 a.m.) — Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has repeatedly criticized the Democratic Party for running an unfair primary and called for the removal of its chair. But one of his top advisers this week described the party’s process for drafting its platform as “pretty good.”

While Sanders has begun acknowledging he is not going to be the Democratic nominee for president, he has called for a “fundamental transformation” of the party and vowed to remain in the race to influence its platform. The independent senator clearly influenced the final draft of the Democratic National Convention’s platform, which includes a $15 minimum wage and language like a “rigged economy” — a term Sanders has often used in speeches on the campaign trail.

(July 1, 2016 08:00 a.m.) — On Friday in a press conference, Attorney General Loretta Lynch vowed to “accept” investigators’ and prosecutors’ recommendations regarding whether to indict presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s alleged use of an insecure email server. This announcement set aside whisperings that Lynch would be a safety net for Clinton if an indictment was recommended, particularly in light of a certain tarmac rendezvous with Bill.

While Clinton waits to hear her fate, some wonder if an indictment would help the all-but-defunct campaign of her rival, Bernie Sanders. Looking at the inevitable domino reaction that could come with an indicted presidential candidate, the question becomes, could Sanders become the nominee if Clinton is indicted?

(June 30, 2016 09:15 p.m.) — The National Congress of American Indians invited four presidential candidates to its mid-year conference in Spokane this week. But only one addressed the congress directly.

Although Hillary Clinton is likely to be the Democratic party’s nominee for president, Bernie Sanders is still on the campaign trail. In a three-and-a-half minute video message to the National Congress of American Indians, Sanders said he’d continue to fight for a progressive agenda.

“To my mind, we need to fundamentally change the relationship between the United States government and the native American community,” Sanders said.

(June 29, 2016 1:04 p.m.) — Amid allegations that Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz “rigged” the Democratic presidential primary in favor of Hillary Clinton, 120 people, including 104 Bernie Sanders donors, sued both Wasserman Schultz and the DNC in the Southern District Court of Florida yesterday for fraud, negligence, misrepresentation, and other claims. They alleged she misled the DNC and Sanders donors into thinking she was “impartial.”

The suit comes after a group of Russian hackers published emails they claim show the DNC had, since May 2015, been planning strategies to help Hillary Clinton defeat Donald Trump in the general election.

(June 28, 2016 6:00 p.m.) — On Tuesday, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders penned an op-ed in the New York Times, arguing, in essence, that the Democratic Party must wake up to the realities facing working people around the world or risk being tossed aside by the right-wing demagogues on the rise in both the United States and Europe.

Reflecting on the recent “Brexit” vote, Sanders argues that political and economic elites, including the Democratic Party of the United States, have become disconnected from the lives of the people they purport to represent.

“Workers in Britain, many of whom have seen a decline in their standard of living while the very rich in their country have become much richer, have turned their backs on the European Union and a globalized economy that is failing them and their children,” Sanders wrote.

(June 27, 2016 01:24 p.m.) — Sen. Bernie Sanders‘ (I-Vt.) political muscle in down-ballot races will face a key test Tuesday, as his chosen candidate in New York’s 24th congressional district faces off against two competitors who have more support from New York elected officials and Democratic organizations.

Sanders went to New York on Friday to campaign for Eric Kingson, a 70-year-old Syracuse University professor and political novice. Kingson co-founded the national organization Social Security Works and started the Strengthen Social Security Coalition, which comprises more than 300 organizations focused on strengthening and expanding Social Security. He has also called for a single-payer health care system, which has been a signature issue for Sanders.

(June 25, 2016 8:00 p.m.) — The exorbitant costs of attending the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia on July 25-28 this year, is threatening to leave some delegates out in the cold.
The DNC strongly requires delegates to stay at an appointed hotel, and costs for a room start at $569 per night, plus tax and fees, with the hotel requiring a five night minimum, putting base costs for attending the convention in the thousands, effectively shutting out anyone below a certain income bracket.
