By TOBY HARNDEN, The Australian

(May 22, 2016 7:46 pm) — Their slogan is “Bernie or bust” and their hatred for the Democratic party establishment is so strong that some are vowing to back Donald Trump rather than hold their noses and vote for Hillary Clinton.

Hardcore supporters of Clinton’s rival, the socialist senator Bernie Sanders, are vowing to fight her all the way to the party convention in July — even though the former secretary of state has all but secured the Democratic nomination for president.

VALLEJO (May 18, 2016 10:45 pm) — Decrying the “rigged economy,” the war on drugs and student loan debt, and making light of his own unruly white hair, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders delighted a crowd of thousands Wednesday evening at a waterfront park in Vallejo.

Fresh from successes in the Oregon and Kentucky primary elections, the Vermont senator with socialist/populist inclinations — like a tax on Wall Street speculation to refinance student debt and pay for free college tuition — punched the air with his right arm as he recited his campaign talking points.

(May 16, 2016 08:00 am) — Who is the world-renowned political dissident Noam Chomsky voting for? “In the primaries, I would prefer Bernie Sanders,” Chomsky says.

“If Clinton is nominated and it comes to a choice between Clinton and Trump, in a swing state, a state where it’s going to matter which way you vote, I would vote against Trump, and by elementary arithmetic, that means you hold your nose and you vote Democrat. I don’t think there’s any other rational choice.”

(May 15, 2016 12:00 pm) – When Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders spoke in San Diego, he said, among other others, “This campaign is about the Native Americans.“ I don’t think I’ve ever heard a politician even talk about Indians let alone include them in his race for President. Should I be happy that someone is at least talking about the 566 tribes? We are a mere 1.6 % of the voting population. Of course, we know that only a third of all Indians live on reservations.

We are many urban Indians. And we vote.
