(May 14, 2016 5:37 pm) — No matter what you think about Hillary Clinton as the presidential primaries wind down, there is one undeniable fact that lingers in the background. Despite having had enormous advantages from the start of the campaign—no serious competition from within the party, solid support from national party leaders, a massive war chest and a nationwide grassroots network built over the course of decades in national politics—Clinton has struggled to put away a 74-year-old Jewish socialist who has had almost no establishment support.

Say whatever you want about Clinton’s lengthy résumé—and her credentials are indeed impressive—her performance this primary season is hardly indicative of a strong candidate.

Bernie Sanders, California Dropped A Grenade On Gilead

(May 12, 2016 10:39 am) — In September Hillary Clinton put the healthcare industry on notice pursuant to price gouging. She may have been trying to upstage Senator Bernie Sanders after his HCV rant four months earlier. Sanders thought veterans deserved the world’s best HCV treatment — Gilead’s (NASDAQ:GILD) Harvoni — at a reasonable price; I agreed with him. Market chatter suggested the VA garnered HCV drugs at $40,000 per regimen. Gilead intimated it cut the price even further in Q1 in order to woo the VA back.

Summary

A California initiative — California Drug Price Relief Act — would prohibit state agencies from paying more for prescription drugs than the VA.

Senator Bernie Sanders has thrown his support behind the Act.

The Act could put a dent in prices for prescription drugs like HCV and HIV/AIDS.

If the Act gains traction nationwide it could sink GILD.

Bernie Sanders has gone too far this time.

(Wednesday, May 11, 2016) — Fresh off a big win in the West Virginia primary, Sen. Bernard Sanders‘ campaign said Wednesday the Democratic Party would be courting “disaster” if it nominates Hillary Clinton as its presidential nominee.

In a fundraising email to supporters, Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver cited recent polls showing the Vermont senator performing better against Republican Donald Trump in general election match-ups. Recent surveys have shown Mrs. Clinton virtually tied with Mr. Trump in the key battleground states of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida.

Bernie Sanders Tells Colbert He’s Not Giving Up Any Time Soon

(May 10, 2016 05:35 a.m.) — Bernie Sanders stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Monday night and helped Stephen retrieve a candy bar that was stuck in a vending machine. In the opening segment of the show, the Senator from Vermont assured Colbert that there was no reason to give up on his delicious treat.

Unfortunately, the late night host didn’t share the same feelings about Bernie’s chances of becoming the Democratic nominee for president.

(May 8, 2016 17:00) — Bernie Sanders is looking to make a strong closing statement to the superdelegates who could determine his fate in the Democratic primary, and he may have it. Polls currently show he is headed for a big winning streak to end the voting season.

Sanders has fallen far behind front-runner Hillary Clinton, who now holds an edge of roughly 300 pledged delegates, but Sanders has been undaunted and has vowed to remain in the race until the final vote has been counted.

(May 7, 2016 09:00 am) — NEW YORK) — Bernie Sanders began his Thursday in one of the poorest, rural communities in America. “This isn’t a political rally,” he said, kicking off the event at a food bank in Kimball, West Virginia.

He called the meeting an “informal discussion” on poverty, and during the 90-minute town hall-style conversation, he did not mention rival Hillary Clinton once by name. He stuck to issues central to his campaign: inequality, wages, health care and extreme hardships felt by many across the country.

(May 6, 2016 16:36) — FBI investigators will interrogate Hillary Clinton in the coming weeks over her use of a private email server for state communications, according to officials cited by CNN late Thursday.

The news came after MSNBC interviewed the hacker “Guccifer,” who exposed the server containing 2,200 emails, 22 marked “top secret,” and claimed its security was easy to compromise.

Our awful elites gutted America. Now they dare ring alarms about Trump, Sanders By Anis Shivani, Salon

(May 6, 2016 03:07 pm EDT) — Both parties ignored workers, spewed hate, enriched themselves, hollowed out democracy. Now the problem’s populism?

This week, on the night of the Indiana primary, I read one of the most loathsome political screeds it has been my misfortune to encounter.

It was an alarm bell raised by Andrew Sullivan, arguably the greatest hypocrite of the Bush era, on par with his partner in many crimes Christopher Hitchens (remember “Islamofascism?”). Sullivan proclaims that the election of Trump would be an “extinction-level” event. Well, perhaps it will be.

The Political Moment Finally Caught Up To Bernie Sanders’ Message

(May 5, 2016 7:19 pm ET) — Back when Bernie Sanders’ campaign was just ramping up, and he was still giving speeches under covered picnic shelters to small groups of Democrats, he was talking about a political revolution.

“The only way we bring change to this country — and I’m the only candidate, I think, who will tell you this — is when we develop a strong, grass-roots movement that tells the people who today control America they can’t have it all,” Sanders said in June to a crowd of about 50 in a park outside Des Moines, Iowa. “This country belongs to all of us.”
